Musical Theater Classes

Fall 2024 Classes

Does your child love being the center of attention? Do they love to sing and act? Are they shy but want to make new friends and learn more about being on a stage? Then our Musical Theater classes will be a great fit. Over the past 19 years, the students in our Musical Theater programs have performed over 100 performances for our community.

VERY IMPORTANT

Before you register, please confirm with your child’s school and/or any after school activities for possible conflicts with rehearsal times and show dates. The most important week for our team and actors is tech and show week (the week of the show). When students are absent that week, it can be difficult to run things smoothly. However, if we know in advance, we will try our best to be flexible and plan ahead.

Our students’ range in age from preschool to high school, and everything in between. We are proud to have many had many of our students that have been a part of our program continuing their theater training in community theaters, landing leads in their school productions, and continuing their theater education at the college level and beyond.

As part of our program, students are taught all aspects of being a part of a full musical theater production. In the beginning of the session, we take them through the audition process so they know what may be expected of them when they not only audition for us, but for other theater opportunities as well. They are then cast in a role in our current production, and learn theater terminology, acting skills, characterization, and even Improv techniques that will be helpful for them in their performance.

Along with acting, children also learn choreography for musical numbers that are crowd pleasing and FUN! Most important of all, by participating in our program our students learn the importance of working as a team as well as build their own self-confidence along the way to help them blossom into the person they were born to be!

We look forward to welcoming you (or welcoming you back!) to our theater family!

Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE A BRAND NEW CLASS!

Caponi’s Conservatory Program. Grades 9th – 12th Only

Mondays (6:00-8:00) – August 12th- May 19th

We saw a need, and we are going to fill it! This year, Caponi’s Cannolis School of the Arts will be embarking on a new high school age intensive class. This year-long class will be all about performer development and growth.  We will work on fine tuning musical theater skills, audition techniques, and individual performance feedback.  Along the way, we will have special industry guest speakers to provide valuable insight and learning for the students- an experience they won’t get anywhere else!

For these more seasoned performers of our group, we are doing things a little differently. Instead of blindly choosing a show and hope that it will be a good fit for the class, we will be choosing what the students perform based on the dynamics of the students, their individual and group performance capabilities, and student input.  This will help us personalize the show and help more students have their time to shine and grow in their craft.  In the fall we will invite the parents to watch a small showcase performance highlighting some of the skills that the students have been working on, and then the full production will be in the spring, show TBD.   They will also be given the opportunity to perform over two weekends, with tickets being sold also to the public as a true community theater production!

We are looking at this class as an opportunity for students to learn and grow in their craft and be able to apply what they learn in future auditions and performing opportunities for not just us, but also outside groups.  Not only will they learn valuable performing techniques from industry professionals, but they will also learn transferable skills like hard work, dedication and drive, which will help build their character and work ethic for many years to come.

Note: Students currently entering 8th grade and have participated in AT LEAST 2 productions in our group can AUDITION to be in the high school group. Only students entering 8th grade will need to audition in advance. Audition date will be in the evening at our studio on Monday July 22nd. (You will be given a time slot to choose from and more details upon registering) Admission will be based on readiness and where we feel they would best flourish. If your child fits these parameters, please e-mail us at info@caponimusic.com for audition instructions.

Note: If you are chosen to participate in the High School Group as an 8th grader, you will NOT be able to participate in the Middle School group as well.

Tuition: The Season and Pay in Full balance for Conservatory is $100 per month (37 weeks and extra rehearsal time). This does NOT include the one-time $75 registration fee. There is also an option to split the tuition into 10 monthly payments ($100 per month or $500 each 4th month). If you wish to pay in full, there will be a $100 discount for the entire season. Tuition is due by the 1st of each month or by the first day of the month of your child’s class. If tuition is not paid by due date, a $25 late fee will apply.

NOTE: All classes are conveniently broken into monthly payments per the total season cost. Some months are shorter than others, but it is based on the season, not the individual months. This makes it easier for parents to budget.

  • Mondays (6:00-8:00 p.m.) – August 12th- May 19th, which will include mandatory extra rehearsal time Tuesday, May 20th – Thursday, May 22nd (Times TBA)

Important

  • Registration fee guarantees your child’s spot for ALL classes.
  • Please Note: Students who miss Mandatory Tech and Dress rehearsals or have multiple absences, parts may be released to their understudy and your child’s role may be switched to another. We understand being ill or if there is a family emergency, absences will be excused.

NOTE FOR ALL CLASSES

Before registering for ANY classes, please be aware that if your child is involved in other activities with their elementary, middle & high school during our tech week or important rehearsals prior, for if they miss more than three unexcused absences, their part may be released to another cast member, or they could be removed from a musical number. It is very difficult for the other students when their team members are not present during not only tech rehearsals, but each week, as well. (We know we have said this multiple times, but it is just super important to help our classes run smoothly- all students and their individual roles are important to the flow of the show, and when just one child is missing and we are working on choreography or blocking, it can be hard for them to make up with after repeated absences.)
